The Volkswagen Tiguan has long been a fan favorite in the SUV segment—plenty of power, ample cargo and passenger space, and an overall fun spirit have allowed it to race out ahead of the competition. For 2026, we now get a new VW Tiguan redesign, offering some welcomed improvements to an already praised vehicle. But how does it stack up to previous years?
For curious shoppers out there, we have you covered in this 2026 Volkswagen Tiguan redesign overview. Let’s look at the updated specs, performance, interior, and tech of this storied SUV to see if it’s worth checking out.
2026 VW Tiguan Redesign: Performance

The new 2026 Tiguan packs power aplenty. Most trims come with a turbo 2.0L 4-cylinder engine that delivers 201 horsepower. The new, upper-level Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo trim ups the ante with a total of 268 horsepower, a welcome addition by any means. The standard transmission is an 8-speed automatic, which is smooth and easy to operate. When choosing a drivetrain, we recommend all-wheel drive for improved handling.
2026 VW Tiguan Redesign: MPG
Since it hasn’t been released, there are no official numbers for MPG. However, we can look to the previous year and make some educated assumptions. The 2025 Tiguan gets up to 26 city MPG and 24 highway MPG, so it’s a safe bet we’ll see similar impressive numbers from the 2026 VW Tiguan redesign.
2026 VW Tiguan Redesign: Seating and Interior

The overall size of the VW Tiguan redesign hasn’t changed, so we’re looking at the same interior dimensions. Both the front and rear legroom come in at 40.2”, which is plenty of room for comfort on longer drives. Up to five passengers will be able to fit in the cabin, so while it isn’t as large as the VW Atlas, it still provides ample space.
The entry-level trims will likely feature cloth seating and the usual cupholders, climate control, and visors. However, the available features raise an eyebrow. Top trims will offer massaging front seats for those who like a little extra luxury. You can also add ventilation to the front seats for an added bonus. Head-up displays are becoming more popular and are an available option in the 2026 Tiguan. If you like mood lighting, the ambient lighting option is available, as is a power liftgate.
2026 VW Tiguan Redesign: Tech

The 2026 Tiguan promises to be one of the most techy VW models to date. The base infotainment system is 12.9” and the driver info center is a 10.3” display. Want more from the infotainment system? Good news: there’s a 15” option available. There’s also a 12-speaker Harmon-Kardon sound system available for the audiophiles out there. As an added bonus, all trims benefit from wireless charging and multiple USB charging ports.
2026 VW Tiguan Redesign: Safety Rating
Once again, because the 2026 Tiguan is yet to come out, it hasn’t undergone independent safety tests, but we can look at the 2025 VW Tiguan for inspiration. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded the 2025 Tiguan with a 5-star safety award. We can expect to see many standard safety features, including:
- Auto emergency braking
- Lane assist
- Lane departure warning
- Adaptive cruise control
- Blind-spot monitoring
- Rear cross-traffic monitoring
- And more
